Puglia’s Best Beaches

It’s no surprise that Puglia has two of Italy’s best gay and naturist beaches because this region is all about the sea.

Seasonal vegetables and herbs are the key ingredients in any authentic Italian kitchen, especially in Southern Italy. Perfectly set on the Mediterranean with over 500 miles of coastline and the longest of Italy’s mainland regions, Puglia is sandwiched between the Adriatic and Ionian Seas. Big cities definitely offer more chances for those looking for love or simply fun, so Milan, Rome and Bologna are the best cities in Italy for singles.  There are also many wonderful lesser-known places where an interest in LGBTQ+ history could lead you, such as Florence's Bargello Museum, which contains an earlier Renaissance statue of David by the artist Donatello—the first free-standing male nude since Classical Antiquity, and a super-sexy homoerotic nude at that.

La Ciclatera Sotto Il Mare is a gay-friendly café with a wonderful terrace overlooking Bari’s old port, and it’s the perfect place to enjoy something light to eat or a place where you can enjoy a pre-dinner aperitif. Head north to Spiaggia d’Ayala and Campomarino di Maruggio for golden sand dunes flanked by a pine forest and hot adventure in the cool of the shade.

Located in the port city of Brindisi, Torre Guaceto is the busiest gay beach on the Adriatic coast.

One of the most gay-friendly areas in Southern Italy is Puglia, including the beachside town of Gallipoli, which has recently because a popular destination for LGBTQ+ locals.

The organization Polis Aperta estimates that 5 to 10% of Italians in uniformed service (military or police) are LGB.
